Looking for the best MCP server plugin for WordPress? Two years ago this category barely existed. Now there are enough options that picking one takes actual research, which is exactly what this post saves you.
The short version of why you’d want one: an MCP server plugin lets AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor and other MCP clients) manage your site through a common protocol called MCP. Draft posts, answer traffic questions, fix SEO metadata, triage comments, all from the chat you already use.
This comparison covers five WordPress MCP server plugins that ship their own ready-made tools, judged on tools, setup, security model and price. WordPress’s own MCP Adapter (version 0.7.0, on WordPress.org since October 2, 2026, 40,000+ active installs) is not ranked because it is a bridge, not a tool set: it passes along the actions that WordPress or other plugins choose to make available to AI clients. Easy MCP AI is made by Themeisle, the company behind this blog.
| Plugin | Active installs | Rating | Tool count | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy MCP AI | 10,000+ | 5/5 (11 ratings) | 280+ | Analytics and SEO data in chat, free plugin |
| AI Engine | 90,000+ | 4.9/5 (869 ratings) | More than fifty | All-in-one AI features beyond MCP |
| WPVibe | 60,000+ | 5/5 (102 ratings) | 37 | Setup-first hosted MCP service |
| Royal MCP | 10,000+ | 5/5 (7 ratings) | 200+ | Page-builder-heavy sites |
| Secure MCP Server | 5,000+ | 5/5 (7 ratings) | 300+ | Teams needing role-scoped AI |
Installs and ratings are from the WordPress.org plugin directory on October 7, 2026, and tool counts are each vendor’s own published figure. Now the details.
1. Easy MCP AI 🏆
Easy MCP AI is a free MCP server that runs inside your own WordPress site, with no hosted relay and no Easy MCP AI account. It leads this list for data tools that connect your own Google Analytics 4, Search Console and SEO-vendor accounts, such as Semrush or Ahrefs, to the chat. They form the third of three layers across its 280+ tools. The first layer is core WordPress tools: posts, media, taxonomies, comments, users, menus, revisions, blocks, settings. The second is plugin-integration tools: WooCommerce, ACF, The Events Calendar, BuddyPress, and six major SEO plugins. The third is data-integration tools: Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Semrush, SE Ranking, DataForSEO, and Ahrefs Domain Rating. Most core tools are on by default, and a set of riskier ones start off. Plugin-integration tools switch on once the matching plugin is active and you enable its group under Easy MCP AI → Tools → Abilities. Data tools switch on once you save that provider’s credentials and enable them under Easy MCP AI → Tools → External data.
Your AI can answer “which queries dropped in clicks this week?” from your actual analytics in the same chat. Easy MCP AI also exposes WordPress 6.9+ Abilities, the actions WordPress core and other plugins register. Other plugins’ abilities are switched on under Easy MCP AI → Tools → Abilities, next to its plugin-integration groups, and WordPress’s own are listed under Easy MCP AI → Tools → Core. On a fresh install, other plugins’ non-destructive abilities start switched on, and abilities from plugins you install later stay off until you enable them.
Its public track record is short: a perfect 5 out of 5, but from only 11 ratings. Ten thousand installs is healthy traction, not a decade of battle-testing. If you want the most-established option in this comparison, that’s the next entry.
Using it
Setup is quick: install, then connect a client over OAuth 2.1 from the connect card on the Easy MCP AI Dashboard. Its 1-click buttons for Claude, Cursor and VS Code open the client, and you then sign in to WordPress and approve. For config-file clients such as Codex CLI, Windsurf or Zed, create a scoped API token under Easy MCP AI → Connections → API tokens. Each token or OAuth grant gets an access level (Full access, Read-only or Custom), and every call passes a WordPress capability check. By default, each token is limited to 60 requests per minute and the Audit log records every MCP tool call. On new installs, Change history also keeps before/after snapshots of changes made through MCP, and since version 2.1.0 the AI can restore changes from it.
Free vs pro
The plugin is free on WordPress.org, with no subscription to pay for the plugin itself. The Semrush, SE Ranking, and DataForSEO integrations need paid accounts with those vendors; the Ahrefs Domain Rating lookup runs on a free Ahrefs APIv3 key. GA4 and Search Console connect through your own Google service account.
Key features
- 280+ tools across core, plugin-integration and data layers
- OAuth 2.1 connect (1-click for Claude, Cursor and VS Code) plus scoped API tokens
- Audit log, plus Change history snapshots the AI can restore from since 2.1.0
- GA4, Search Console and SEO-vendor data tools, connected through your own accounts

2. AI Engine
AI Engine is the incumbent: 90,000+ active installs and 4.9 out of 5 across 869 ratings, which is the strongest track record in this comparison by a distance. Listed on WordPress.org since December 2022, it is an all-in-one AI plugin: chatbots, content generation, AI forms in Pro, an editor copilot, automation. Its MCP server lets external AI clients browse content, edit posts and manage media, with plugin, theme, database and WooCommerce tools in Pro.
If your goal is “AI features on my site” broadly, not specifically an MCP server, AI Engine is the natural first stop. The MCP layer is one feature of a much bigger machine.
Breadth is the trade: if all you want is a clean MCP server, you’re installing an aircraft carrier for a ferry ride. On tool count, AI Engine’s own pages differ: its WordPress.org page says more than fifty MCP tools, and its product tour site says about 120 curated tools.
Using it
Expect a bigger dashboard with more concepts to learn, because it does more things. AI Engine’s model connectors link WordPress to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral and other providers. Its MCP server is what lets ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and OpenClaw connect to the site.
Free vs pro
Free core plugin, with a paid Pro version adding AI Forms, embeddings for content-aware answers, the Editor Assistant and extra MCP tools for plugin, theme, database and WooCommerce management. Some AI features also need your own provider API keys, which carry their own usage costs with OpenAI, Anthropic and other providers.
Key features
- Chatbots that answer from your own content through embeddings (Pro)
- Content generation and task automation, plus AI forms in Pro
- MCP server for external AI clients
- Free core plugin with a Pro upgrade

3. WPVibe
WPVibe is the polished specialist: a hosted WordPress MCP service that relays requests through WPVibe’s servers, with 60,000+ installs and 5 out of 5 from 102 ratings, more reviews than any other MCP-focused plugin here. The vendor leans hard into setup simplicity, and reviewer Jackson Whelan is quoted on its WordPress.org listing calling it “The easiest setup of any AI product for WordPress, period.”
The vendor’s pitch is “Tell your AI what you want, and it happens on your live WordPress site”: it connects your site to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf and other MCP clients.
Its safety model centers on approvals: with its “Dangerously bypass approvals” switch off (the default), destructive operations pause for an in-chat approval with a dry-run preview, posts default to draft, and deletes go to trash. Its Approval Log in wp-admin records approved and bypassed operations, not every call the AI makes.
Using it
Install, connect, done is the pitch, and its WordPress.org reviews suggest it delivers.
Free vs pro
The plugin is free on WordPress.org, and the WPVibe service it connects through has a free plan with every tool and a daily allowance of WordPress actions; optional paid plans raise that allowance.
Key features
- Dedicated WordPress MCP server
- Connects Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, and more
- Setup-first user experience
- Free plugin, with a free service plan (daily action allowance) and paid plans
4. Royal MCP
Royal MCP is the feature-stacker: over 200 tools by the vendor’s count (90 WordPress core plus 136 integration tools), OAuth 2.0, and a privacy-first pitch that “nothing leaves your site.” The vendor’s own documentation qualifies that: the plugin itself sends nothing out, but whatever a hosted AI such as Claude or ChatGPT reads goes to that AI’s provider. Data stays on your server when both your AI client and a local model such as Ollama or LM Studio run on it and connect to WordPress there. The integration list is its headline: WooCommerce, Elementor, Divi, ACF, Yoast, UpdraftPlus, WPForms, Wordfence, Contact Form 7, MonsterInsights, W3 Total Cache, Duplicator, and more auto-load when present.
It has 10,000+ installs and a 5 out of 5 rating from 7 ratings, so it’s early in its public track record.
The 136 integration tools are only as useful as the plugins you actually run, and some of them, such as its WooCommerce and Yoast SEO tools, overlap with tools Easy MCP AI and Secure MCP Server also include.
Using it
The vendor’s listing says setup takes a minute or less with Claude (Code, Desktop, or web).
Free vs pro
The plugin is free on WordPress.org, and a paid Royal MCP Pro, which the vendor puts at 300+ tools, adds a builder-focused layer.
Key features
- Over 200 tools, 90 for WordPress core and 136 for other plugins
- OAuth 2.0 connection flow
- Deep page-builder and utility-plugin integrations
- Local-model support (Ollama, LM Studio), which keeps data on your server when your AI client and the model both run there

5. Secure MCP Server (miniOrange)
Secure MCP Server by miniOrange leads with access control. It assigns MCP tools to each WordPress role, so two users with different roles can connect the same AI client and get different tool sets. It also covers the practical bases: posts, custom post types and fields, media, WooCommerce products, Yoast SEO, comments, Elementor and Kadence layouts, and contact form submissions.
It is the smallest of the five, at 5,000+ installs and 5 out of 5 from 7 ratings. For agencies and teams, its role mapping may still be the deciding factor.
Try the role mapping on a test site before the AI works on live content.
Using it
The vendor’s listing promises a two-minute connection to Claude, ChatGPT, or other MCP clients.
Free vs pro
The plugin is free on WordPress.org, and the vendor’s readme says role-based AI permissions, per-tool on/off switches, self-hosted OAuth 2.1 login and full activity logs are all included with no restrictions.
Key features
- Role-based AI permissions
- Page-layout editing in Elementor and Kadence
- Contact form submission handling
- Free on WordPress.org, with activity logs included
Which one should you pick? 🤔
- Choose Easy MCP AI if you want GA4, Search Console and SEO-vendor data in the same chat as its WordPress, WooCommerce and SEO-plugin tools (280+ tools in all). It runs on your own site with no hosted relay and keeps an Audit log of every MCP tool call plus before/after snapshots of changes made through MCP.
- Choose AI Engine if you want the most-established option in this comparison and your ambitions go beyond MCP into chatbots, forms, and AI content tooling.
- Choose WPVibe if you want a setup-first hosted MCP service that pauses destructive operations for your approval by default, and you are fine with requests going through WPVibe’s servers and a daily action cap on the free plan.
- Choose Royal MCP if your site runs Elementor or Divi plus utility plugins such as UpdraftPlus, Wordfence or WPForms, and you want dedicated tools for them.
- Choose Secure MCP Server if role-based permissions for the AI are your top requirement, such as team or client work.
Whichever you pick, the same first-week advice applies: start with the narrowest access the plugin offers (read-only where it exists), watch the logs, and hand over write permissions one capability at a time. And if you haven’t connected an AI to WordPress before, the step-by-step guide to connecting Claude or ChatGPT to WordPress walks through the whole process.
