But first, a few housekeeping steps&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin, <a href=\"https:\/\/themeisle.com\/blog\/how-to-clear-cache\/\">clear your browser cache<\/a>. The browser often makes a copy of a website and presents users with the copied version (in other words, a cached version) to speed up the page loading process. So it\u2019s possible that your site is back to normal and the error is just a cached version of the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, take a <a href=\"https:\/\/themeisle.com\/blog\/wordpress-backup-plugins-compared\/\">backup of your website<\/a>. To remove the error, you will need to access the backend of your site and delete the maintenance file. If you ended up deleting the wrong file, it would lead to bigger problems. So take a backup. In case, something goes wrong, you can restore your site and try again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you already have a system in place where your site is being backed up daily, then proceed with the steps below. Otherwise, you will need to take a manual backup since you can\u2019t access your wp-admin and can\u2019t install a backup plugin. That said, manual backups and restorations are difficult, but your hosting provider might be able to help. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Now, let\u2019s get started. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:40px 0;border-width:15px;border-color:#4267cf\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ftp\">Fix maintenance mode via FTP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Install an FTP client like FileZilla on your computer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, connect FileZilla to your server using the FTP credentials from your host. If you&#8217;re not sure how it works, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/themeisle.com\/blog\/what-is-ftp-wordpress\/\">follow our WordPress FTP guide<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;re connected to your server, access your site&#8217;s root folder by going to the <strong>public_html <\/strong>folder and then locate the <strong>.maintenance <\/strong>file in the root folder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can&#8217;t find the file, go to <strong>Server<\/strong>, select <strong>Force showing hidden files, <\/strong>and then try locating the file again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right-click on the .maintenance file and select <strong>Delete<\/strong>.
