Fortunately, most web browsers make it easy to clear the cache. If you’ve recently made changes to your site and those edits aren\u2019t appearing in your browser, then purging the cache can often solve your problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this post, we\u2019ll show you how to wipe the slate clean in Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Microsoft Edge. Let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to clear browser cache in five web browsers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Google Chrome<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Accounting for around 67%[1]<\/sup> of the market share, Google Chrome<\/a> is officially the world\u2019s most popular browser. If you\u2019re one of the many people who experience the world wide web via Chrome, you’ll be happy to know that it\u2019s easy to clear the cache.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In Google Chrome\u2019s upper-right corner, click on the More<\/em> icon. You can then select More tools:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Then click on Clear browsing data<\/em>. This will open Chrome\u2019s Settings<\/em> in a new tab:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Here, you can delete everything that was cached during a specific time period. For example, you can erase the past hour from your local computer. This can be useful if you\u2019ve just<\/em> made a change to your website, and want to see how this content appears in your browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Alternatively, you can purge the entire cache by selecting All time<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To only delete your Chrome browser cache, make sure to only select the option for Cached images and files<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After making your selection, click on Clear data<\/em>. Google Chrome will now clear your cache. <\/p>\n\n\n

    2. Apple Safari<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Launched way back in 2003, today Apple\u2019s Safari is the second most popular web browser. If you\u2019re an Apple fan, then you can clear the cache using Safari\u2019s hidden Develop<\/em> menu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To coax this secret menu out of hiding, select Safari \u2192 Preferences<\/em>. You can then click on the Advanced<\/em> tab:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Select the following checkbox: Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar <\/em>checkbox. If you exit this window, a new option should be available in the Safari toolbar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To empty the cache, close any open Safari windows. You can then select Develop \u2192 Empty Caches<\/em>. Finally, select File \u2192 New Window <\/em>to launch Safari with a squeaky-clean cache. <\/p>\n\n\n

    3. Mozilla Firefox<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Mozilla Firefox makes it easy to clear the cache, but it also gives you the option to wipe the slate clean automatically, every time you exit the browser. This means you won\u2019t have to repeatedly empty the cache, when working on your website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To purge your browning history manually, select Firefox \u2192 Preferences<\/em> from the toolbar. This will open Firefox\u2019s Settings<\/em> menu in a new tab:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Alternatively, you can jump straight to the Preferences<\/em> page by entering the following web address: about:preferences<\/em>. In the left-hand menu, select Privacy & Security<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now, scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data<\/em> section, and select Clear Data<\/em>. In the subsequent popup, make sure you select Cached Web Content<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When you\u2019re happy with your selection, click on Clear<\/em>. Firefox will now empty your cache. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you find yourself regularly having to clear the cache, then you may want to configure Firefox to perform this action automatically, every time you close the browser. To auto-clear your cache, select Firefox \u2192 Preferences<\/em> from the menu bar. In the left-hand menu, select Privacy & Security<\/em>. You can then scroll down to the History<\/em> section:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next, open the Firefox will<\/em> drop-down menu and choose Use custom settings for history.<\/em> You can then select the following checkbox: Clear history when Firefox closes<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Select the Setting<\/em> button. This launches Firefox\u2019s Settings for Clearing History<\/em> window:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now, select the Cache<\/em> checkbox. To save your changes, click on the OK<\/em> button. Mozilla Firefox will now purge the cache automatically every time you exit the browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you change your mind, you can reverse this change by navigating back to Firefox \u2192 Preferences \u2192 Privacy & Security<\/em>. In the History<\/em> section, open the Firefox will <\/em>drop-down menu and choose Remember history<\/em>. Your cache will then remain on your computer until you manually remove it. <\/p>\n\n\n

    4. Opera<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Launched way back in 1995, Chromium-based Opera is one of the oldest web browsers still under active development. If you\u2019re a fan of this desktop browser, you can clear the cache from Opera’s History<\/em> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To open this page, either click on the History<\/em> icon in Opera\u2019s left-hand menu, or select History \u2192 Show All History<\/em> from its menu bar. Alternatively, you can use the Ctrl+H<\/em> shortcut. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Then select Clear browsing data<\/em>. In the subsequent window, make sure that Cached images and files<\/em> is selected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You can then choose a Time range<\/em> from the drop-down menu. The possible values start at Last hour<\/em> and stretch to All time<\/em>, which will purge the entire cache:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When you\u2019re happy to proceed, click on Clear data<\/em>. Opera will now purge all of the cached images and files that fall within the specified timeframe.<\/p>\n\n\n

    5. Microsoft Edge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    As the successor to Internet Explorer, the cross-platform Microsoft Edge may be one of the newer browsers. However, this newcomer is rapidly gaining popularity, with a recent Microsoft job advertisement revealing that Edge now has 600 million customers[2]<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you\u2019re one of those users, then you can clear the cache by selecting the Menu<\/em> icon in Edge\u2019s upper-right corner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now select Settings. <\/em>In the left-hand menu, choose Privacy, Search, and Services<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You can now choose whether to purge images and files cached within a specific period of time. For example, you might clear all content cached within the last hour, or the previous seven days:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
