Your first step should be confirming that your theme supports dropdown menus. Unfortunately, not all themes offer dropdown menu support. For example, the Neve theme includes built-in functionality<\/a> to create both dropdown and mega menus. If you’re unsure, please check your theme’s documentation to see if dropdown menus are supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\ud83d\udca1 If your theme doesn’t support dropdown menus, this method won’t work<\/strong> for you. Hence, you must check Method #2<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If it does, then you can take advantage of the most popular way to create a WordPress dropdown menu (and one of the easiest).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even better?<\/strong> If you choose to create a dropdown menu in WordPress by using the default menu<\/a> option, you don\u2019t have to worry about the menus disappearing when you switch up your theme or add new plugins!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To get started, head to your WordPress dashboard and click on Appearance > Menus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 1: Create a menu (if needed)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
If you don’t already have a menu, enter a name in the Menu Name<\/strong> box and then click the Create Menu<\/strong> button. The actual name isn’t important – just make it easy to remember:<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\nStep 3: Arrange menu items using drag and drop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Now, you should have a list of all your menu items. To create your dropdown menu, you can use drag and drop to move the items you want to appear in the dropdown over. The “parent” item will appear on the main menu. And the menu items underneath the parent item will appear in the dropdown when a user hovers their mouse over the parent item:<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\nStep 4: Choose menu location<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Once that\u2019s done, you\u2019ll need to figure out where you\u2019d like your menu to show up on your website. The header is usually the best choice (no one wants to scroll to the bottom of your homepage just to find your \u201cContact<\/a>\u201d or \u201cAbout<\/a>\u201d page!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can choose where to display it in the Menu Settings<\/strong> area:<\/p>\n\n\n

- You might see different Display locations<\/strong> because the actual names are different for each theme<\/a>. Usually, you’ll want to pick something like “Top Menu”, “Primary Menu”, “Primary”, etc. if you want to make your menu appear in the header.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- If you check the Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu<\/strong> box, it will add any new pages you create to the menu. This can get cluttered fast, and isn’t recommended!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
Once you save your changes, you’re done!<\/p>\n\n\n
